How
they got him?: Dellavedova
spent the whole 14-15 season with the Celtics after being acquired during the
previous off-season. He played his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls.
Trade
History: Matthew Dellavedova was
traded to the Boston Celtics by the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls were set at point
guard with Stephen Curry and had a real thirst for a forward who could handle
the ball. They inquired about Hedo Turkoglu, the 35 year old vet, and offered
up Dellavedova as a payment. With Durant in the fold, this was a no brainer,
and they shipped Hedo off in a heartbeat, swapping a 35 year old for a 24 year
old. He was on a one year deal.

Analysis: Delly saw some decent playing time this past
season, with the end of year totals clocking in at just under 20 minutes per
game. He saw minutes at both guard spots, predominantly the point guard spot.
However, not until later in the season when injuries decimated the squad did
Delly see some experimental minutes at shooting guard, which he showed some
effectiveness as an off guard. His three point shooting prowess and quick
release meant he was a great spot up shooting threat. The numbers back this up,
as well, as every statistic but his assists increased with the move to SG,
including efficiency. Week 14 was his best of the season, and in 35 minutes per
game he mustered 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3 assists per game at great
efficiency. The individual highlight of his year was hitting a buzzer beating
three to defeat the Cavaliers mid-season in overtime, 103-100.
Looking ahead: Delly is a warrior and his hustle and determination
are an asset to any squad. He has a definite place in the pros as an energy guy
off the bench with above-average three point shooting ability. After a
fantastic showing in the NBA, Delly is a restricted free agent this off-season.
He will no doubt garner some interest from other teams. However, he has spoken
about his intention to re-up with the Celtics after such a successful season
the year prior, and is unlikely to sign a deal with any other team.
Expect to see Delly back in Celtic green this off-season, picking up a few minutes at both guard spots.
