PLAYERTEAMWHYWHY NOTSTATS

Ben Simmons

PER 26.07

MVP

-
Ben Simmons has had a strong start to the season stats-wise. He's averaging 13 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds per game while playing a healthy amount of minutes. He's currently ranked #17 in the NLL in assists per game so he's able to move the ball well to his teammates which is a great asset for a rookie.Currently, his +/- stats are hurting the team. His team's +/- is -0.3 while he is on the court and 5.5 off the court which is indicating that he's a liability defensively. This is shown through the first 3 games of the season when his matchup has beaten him. Also, his team's record is 2-2 which shows that he can have more of an impact on the game if he can tighten up his defense.

Kyle Kuzma is another rookie off to another hot start. Averaging 12 points, 4 rebounds and nearly 2.5 steals per game which is great for a player of his size. His performance is paying dividends as Miami had a scorching start of 3-1, being the talk of the NLL. His shooting is very strong with a 54% field goal and a 50% 3 point percentage, which gets him at #23 in the NLL.Miami needs Kuzma to be more productive on the court as their +/- is 1.6 with him on the court and 10.8 with him off of it.

Malik Monk

PER 6.96

MVP

-
Malik Monk certainly isn't afraid to shoot. Armed with a scorer's mentality, it hasn't quite manifested itself yet in the NLL. He's had one game of 19 points but otherwise has yet to score in double digits. He's a willing passer getting 4 assists twice in his first week. Monk needs to work on reducing his turnovers as he has nearly 2 per game. In addition, his shooting needs to improve as he's shooting 29% from the field and from deep. His team's +/- worsens while he plays at nearly -7 on court.

Lauri Markkanen has exploded out of the gate for the Magic averaging 14 and 7. He's done a great job getting a wide array of shots up which is shown by his #14 NLL ranking in 3 point percentage and #5 NLL overall in free throw percentage.  When he does get to the line, he has yet to miss a shot which shows great poise for this rookie. This performance has led to a perfect week for the Magic, going 4-4 on the week. This is also showcased by his 7.0 team +/- of 7 while he plays and -2 while he on the bench.Markkanen can work on his defense as he can be beaten by longer, rangier power forwards such as the Greek Freak.

MVP

-
Dennis Smith is another rookie who has a scorer's mentality and it has shown with his 12 points per game. He's also a willing passer with 4 assists per game. This effort has helped his team get to a 3-1 record after the first week.  His scoring and his aggressive style of play has also garnered him a #13 NLL ranking in free-throw percentage. His impact on the court is noticed as his team has a 6.4 +/- with him playing and -6 with him on the bench. Like most rookies, Smith can work on his defense, hoping to gather more steals as a guard to help slow down his opponent.

Lonzo Ball

PER 16.72

MVP

-
The much hyped Lonzo Ball has certainly played up to expectations in week 1. He's nearly averaging a double double, with 16 points and nearly 10 assists per game, which has him ranked #3 in the NLL. The young rookie certainly has a knack for getting the ball into the hands of his teammates to allow them to make plays. His play is also helping him team, giving them a 5.5 on the +/- chart when he is on the court. While Ball is certainly putting up the numbers, he's also putting up the numbers in the turnover department, with 6.5 per game. This number hasn't hurt the team too much as they are 3-1 through the first week but certainly needs to be reduced.
