PLAYER OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 16

PLAYERTEAMWHYWHY NOTSTATS

Lebron James

PER 30.29

MVP

-
ALL HAIL THE KING. Are there any awards that LeBron hasn't won over the years? James is still doing what he does - contributing all over the box score and being one of the most imposing players in the game. The Cavaliers are clearly one of the best teams in the league (again) and James is the best player on that team, and that is a very convincing argument. For week 16, he scored +6 above his scoring average on a very efficient week. Cleveland beat both Milwaukee and New York last week and James clearly stepped up his game to get the job done. Would be a deserved winner.

DeMarcus Cousins

MVP

The man is going to eat at a buffet every time he takes the court. In his first week with the Magic he has averaged an insane 31.5 points and 15.8 rebounds! Is there another player in the league who can average numbers like that?! Maybe not. Did it help Orlando win any games? 1/4. I can't say I like the outlook for the Magic this season but boy oh boy I think DeMarcus will feature in a few more POTW contests to close out this season.Because they are empty calories on a bad team, whom played some other bad teams during week 16, also.

Brook Lopez

PER 13.06

MVP

-
Brook Lopez proved that he can carry the offensive load for the Celtics if need be. He was able to put up 26 points per game on ludicrous 58/80/96 shooting, to go along with 6 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 2.5 blocks per game. Too bad he didn't get more minutes... maybe the Celtics wouldn't have been so awful. The team is in absolute disarray - half the team is in the Emergency Ward and the other half haven't played all season and don't know how to play with each other/aren't good enough. 0-4 rules Brook out of this one, despite his great individual impact.

Russell Westbrook

PER 30.89

MVP

-
Westbrook is one of the most explosive and dynamic athletes to ever play the game of Basketball. His team is experiencing great success and he has lead a very young team to the top tiers of the NLL. Week 16 wasn't anything too special in terms of statistics, but his sustained great play and team success see him in the running. His efficiency was great in week 16, however.Out of all the candidates, he could have the most 'normal' statistical line. Plus his team lost to the Cavaliers and got blown out by the Hornets. Surely you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere.

The great hope for the Clippers, along with Booker (until his dozen first picks rock up in June), has been totally balling out as of late. His week 16 is awesome on paper - over 30 points per game, 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Are the Clippers are good team? Not really. But D'Angelo is playing great and the young gun is proving he can hang with the best in the NLL with scoring. They aren't winning, but the stats look nice.As a team on a six game losing streak, it would be hard to reward a player with POTW honours.

Draymond Green

PER 17.88

MVP

-
OKC are absolutely rolling and Draymond Green could be the glue. One of the most versatile players in the game, Draymond can play small or tall depending on the match up. In week 16, he turned in one of the best scoring weeks of his career, putting up 25 points per game on 46% shooting. OKC are also arguably the hottest team in the NLL at the moment (with the 76ers), and continue to make Nenjabin and his hoarding ways look like a marvel GM.Personally, I love Draymond Green, and if he had a say, we would be together, in Boston. Most hate him due to his antics. Not me. Bias included, I'd vote for this guy ;)

Paul George

-
George is already having a terrific season, but he cranked up his efficiency in week 16. 57/67/94 shooting is otherworldly, and combine that with the Wolves stellar form over the last month or so, he is a guy who deserves serious consideration this week. Looks like spud's tinkering has got George playing the best ball of his season.Where is he starting at the moment? Center? Point guard? He is currently doing his best Kevin Durant impression at power forward and he is playing some great ball. The Wolves are winning, also.

Carmelo Anthony

PER 13.74

MVP

-
His numbers both teams (Wizards, Kings) are almost identical - around 27 points, 6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and minimal defensive contributions. Those are All-Star numbers and Carmelo remains one of the best players in the NLL. The Kings are improving their chemistry and are aiming to go deep into the playoffs. Are the Kings even better with Carmelo Anthony? Not sure. They have been winning recently, but it was against some pretty lowly teams.
