MVP WATCH - Week 2

PLAYERTEAMWHYWHY NOTSTATS

Carmelo Anthony

PER 18.71

MVP

-
Early favorites for the come back team of the year must be the Wizards. Former champs had a rough few year and fell all the way tot he bottom. but the times might be brighter as the team had a strong start, powered by health and big contribution from Melo. He's finally giving darko what he paid for.but who are we kidding, Wizards won't stay healthy. first it's gonna be Marc, then it's gonna be Melo. An injury, some personal issues or just DNP - rest old. first signs are already there, Young, carter and varejao (can+t believe that!) will miss week 3.

Another Bucks jumped into top ten with solid week 2, i guess. He had a slow start and focuses more on distributing and defense. Bucks are a nightmare for opposing guards, including recent dud by Pacers's starting backcourt (2 points, 0-9 for Sergio and Jamal). Russalways had the gifts needed for defense, but usually mostly played on the other side of the ball.He can't stay that bad, can he? Russ had an awful week one, including a dud vs Warriors. His numbers are going up, but Bucks are quite happy with him tajking the backseat. Might change if the team starts losing.

The other Knick (is that disrespectful to James?) won the scoring title and MVP last season (he did, right?). This year Tim envisioned he can be a PG, which is kind of hard when you play with Kyrie. Still, there are 9+ assists per game for James, more then twice his career average, and a surprisingly low turnover number, just 24th worst in the league. For Harden, the world record in turnovers per season, that's a remarkable feat.Uh, but his scoring.. 10 points under his stellar 15/16 season. he must be regressing with those numbers. Also, Kyrie will win the Knick vote right now. probably.

Demar is thriving in Orlando and Magic are thriving with Demar. The team finally put it all together and are off to a great start, team best in recent years. Is the departure of GM Laddas just a coincidence, or is the team reapping the benefits of his long hard work? Any similarities to former Sixers GM Hinkie?DDR will put up monster numbers, he always does. But will the team too? i'm a bit unconvinced by the strong start as they only really have two quality guys, DDR and love. Other starters? T Zeller, Singler and Lawson.

knicks have two guys in the top ten for MVP watch. Should we use our best player on the best team again? Well, it's not so clear here and Harden might still wake up, he was already closer in week 2. Kyrie was always a bit underwhelming in NLL, but 2k16 really opened his possibilities. or the new super offensive style Tim embraced. There's only one way Irving wins MVP, if Harden goes down for an extended period. if that happens he'll have all the opportunity in the world to chuck (do we say chuck if you're shooting almost 50% from three?) his numbers up. and voters usually only see one side of the ball and Knicks have one of the best offenses in the league (behind OKC atm)

Jimmy Butler

Another guy that started the year really hot from three point line, currently converting over 50% of his deep range shots. But he's still Jimmy and likes to take it to the basket, which results in league leading 6.4 free throws per game (beating out 6 guys that go to the line more - including guys allergic to contact like Vooch and Scola).Butler is great, great player, but MVP? He's just not in th uppest echelon of players. But he could have a strong team performance behind him. Thunder have a strong start for a change and could finish at the top of the west again.

Anthony Davis

Best player on the top team in the west, top scorer in NLL and NBA. he brow has it all. His offensive break through is somewhat unexpected, he was touted as a defensive monster coming out of college, but so far his best is on the other end. He's as close to a lock in the MIP running too, doubling the scoring output and increasing all other stats in similar minutes. Did we mention his efficiency is through the roof? This guy can't stay healthy. He suffers through injury every season, one that costs his team a few games here and there. A foot sprain? Other then that... he should be the MVP.

Bradley Beal

Beal is no longer cheap, but he's finally healthy and putting up big numbers. or maybe he's just happy that he escaped coach javi and his continuous sessions, that chair must be worn down by now. Beal was made for NLL and it started paying off. his 3 point shot took off, he's at career high 50% (up 21 from last year) and his scoring output is must higher mostly because of that. His overall game also improved and it's seen in increased numbers all over the board.he's spiraling down. League leading 32 points in week 1, just 25 in week 2 and an awful start to week 3 (defensive stallwarts Walker and Ellis forced him to chuck)

Karl-Anthony Towns

Let me say it again, the best player on the best team in NLL, just like Davis (it's still early). He's behind brow in most stats, but beats him with efficiency. His shooting is insane in first two weeks, an unsustainable 66% true shooting for a volume scorer.KAT had a weird week, fouled out in 17 minutes vs Bulls and only played 20 minutes in a blow out vs pacers. can he really stay on the floor? His NBA defense is also iffy, he has troubles keeping up with quicker power forwards. he still makes enough mismatch problems to be a plus at that position. Also, there are two other guys on the team that are better in NAB right now and might take over?
