NLL Insider - Week 1: POTW and ROTW Announced!

by Nenjabin, updated on Wednesday, November 30 2016, 02:27 am EST

The votes are in and final, and here we announce the Players of the Week and Rookies of the Week for Week 1!

East – Karl-Anthony Towns

The race for the recognition as the first POTW for the new season was a tight one out East. Kevin Durant was said to be according to the media, but despite holding the popular vote (38% 1st place), Clinton lost to Trump who held 31% of the 1st place voting. So on preferences, Karl-Anthony Towns is the East POTW for week 1 on 41 points to 38! Bradley Beal was 3rd with the rest of the 1st place voting. Towns lead the scorching Bucks to a 4-0 week and may have even claimed the title of the Bucks now being “his” team as he led their scoring with 26 points per game. He also added 10.8 rebounds, 1 assist, 0.8 steals and a crazy 3.3 blocks and 2.3 triples. If that wasn’t enough, he shot it 56% from the field, 64% from deep and 85% from the line! If that’s not one of the most crazy-ily versatile lines you’ve ever seen, from you Center no less, then you’ve probably only been watching failed NBA players play in China…KAT, take a bow, congratulations on POTW for Week 1.

West – Anthony Davis

The West race for Week 1 was more like watching Usain Bolt try for a world record in the 1st Heat of a local running meet…it was a white wash! Anthony Davis took 95% of the 1st place votes to claim the Week 1 West POTW ahead of Paul George in a distant 2nd. Davis has been much maligned in the NLL despite his obvious talents, but he’s finally coming out now it would seem as he led the Spurs to a 4-0 week on the back of 29.3 points per game, adding 11.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.6 steals and 3 blocks. He’s also added a 3 point shot, dropping 1 per game on 33% shooting, 55% from the field and 76% from the line. Just when we thought you couldn’t top the KAT line for versatility, here is the Brow! Davis looks locked and loaded the Spurs fans are grinning from ear to ear as their big man has awoken. Congratulations Anthony Davis on POTW for Week 1!

West Rookie – Jaylen Brown

The West rookie race is looking fairly empty at this present time, but there was a very clear shining light down in Portland, the town that hasn’t seen many lights in recent times. Jaylen Brown took 66% of the 1st place voting to claim ROTW over Georgios Papagiannis. Brown couldn’t help the Blazers claim a week 1 win, but did his best to do so averaging 23.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists on 50% shooting, giving the fans something to look forward to as a piece for fresh GM Toby to build around for the future. He wasn’t the sexy pick come draft time, but he’s a legit looking player and will get every opportunity to succeed in Portland this year. Congratulations Jaylen Brown on ROTW for Week1!

East Rookie – Brandon Ingram

The East ROTW race for Week 1 looked a lot like the West POTW race mentioned above with Brandon Ingram claiming 95% of the 1st place votes to easily account for Kris Dunn. The Hornets also managed to very good opening week of 3-1 on the back of Ingram’s amazing debut where he averaged 27 points per game. He also added 6.8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocks while also nailing 2.3 triples a game on 33% shooting from deep. Perhaps the most astounding stat of all was his 0 turnovers in 4 games, while clearly having the ball in his hands A LOT! Such an amazing week for the kid showing why he was the #2 overall selection on draft night and unveiling yet another young gun amongst the Hornets young line-up that is likely to surprise some teams this season. Congratulations Brandon Ingram on ROTW for Week 1!

Congratulations to the winners in Week 1, and may the odds be forever in your favour!
