NLL Insider - Interview: GM Smokey - DAL

by pennywise , updated on Sunday, May 01 2016, 12:59 am EST

Unfortunately, GM Smokey, of the Dallas Mavericks, was unavailable for comments, so this is another work of fiction in an attempt to create some more bulletin board fodder!

PW:  So, Smokey, what did you think about the interview with Spud earlier?

SM:  I’m pretty disappointed.  For him to basically try to trivialize my team’s great season is sad.  I know he has to try to build up his team’s confidence, but I hope he doesn’t think that his patchwork squad could ever beat these Mavs in a best of 7.

PW:  Don’t hold back, Smoke….  Tell us how you really feel.  Just kidding.  How about his comments where he stated that he was trying to make trades with you earlier this year?

SM:  Man, let’s just be real and put it all on the table.  Penny, this guy was offering me players like Luke Babbitt and Leandro Barbosa for guys like Danny Green.  He says I blacklisted him, but I was just tired of the horrible trade offers.  If he would have come to me with something more realistic, maybe we could have worked something out, but I’m not killing me to help you.

PW:  Point taken.  Spud also predicted the Rockets would win in 6….

SM:  Let me stop you right there, Penny.  We are already up 2-0 in this series.  If anything, Spud better start praying we don’t sweep those Rockets.  We fully expect to be playing for at least the chance to rep the West in the NLL finals this year.  Sure, we gotta start preparing for the Nuggets in the next round, but I think we can eek out the series.  If someone on the top end of the bracket could knock off the defending champs, I think we have a great shot at playing against the Eastern Conference champs.

PW:  You’re already looking ahead to the Nuggets?  Isn’t that a bit dangerous to already be looking ahead?

SM:  If Houston was more of a challenge, I would, but we are expecting to sweep and hopefully the Spurs can win a game or 2, allowing us just a little bit of rest before round 2.  Spud said the key was to stop our bench, but our bench was not good in game 1.  Yet all of our starters just dominated the Rockets.  Then in game 2, our potential 6th man of the year went off.  They can’t contain everyone.  It just comes down to having more players that can score like that when called upon.  Houston will be a tough out in a few years, but not this one!

PW:  Ok, thanks so much for your time, Smokey.  Good luck the rest of the series.
