A
thrilling game two has come to an end seeing the Sixers claw back in
the fourth quarter trailing by ten to scrape through with a two point
victory; as they defend their home court and head to Indiana for games
three and four. The Sixers shot 50% from both the field and the three
point line, their efficiency in the end being the main factor that saved
them. The Pacers were strong for three quarters outscoring the Sixers
at each break, what followed in the fourth was an unprecedented display
of unforced errors and missed shots. Was it fatigue? Did the Pacers even
expect to be in this position in game two? Or are the Sixers just that
good? All legitimate questions to be asked but what matters in the end
is if you can get the win. Griffin again was solid for the Pacers
providing 13 points and 12 rebounds shooting 50% from the field. It was
obvious though that Griffin was limited by his injuries and it has since
been confirmed that he will be out for the remainder of the post
season... Horrible news for the Pacers who only just got him back. Do
the Pacers even win a game from here? They've been doubted all year but
still managed to power through, but maybe this time they're just
delaying the inevitable.
Much like it was in game one where it
was the Sixers Bigs that really dominated the Pacers, game two was a
similar affair. Gasol contributing for 22 points (7-15 FG), 11 rebounds
and three blocked shots along with Aldridge cleaning up on the glass
with 17 rebounds and 3 blocks of his own. McCollum was of course always
quality in he's role as the primary scorer and GM Vt decision to bring
Leonard off the bench still continues to be paying dividends. The real
question early in this series is what exactly Franchise star point guard
Damian Lillard is bringing to this team... Compared to his lofty
standards he is well under performing and his effectiveness is something
that would need to be addressed; if the Sixers look to make a deep post
season run. It's still early days of course, but in the first two games
Dame is averaging 12.5 PPG, 7.0 APG along with 3 RPG and 2 SPG. Numbers
that on paper aren't all to bad but its the fact he's shooting a
horrendous 36% from the field that could cost the Sixers down the road.
Dame was asked during the post game media conference on how he felt about his performance and whats expected of him;
"It's
to early to even be thinking about this to be honest, i still feel I've
been very effective in distributing and creating shots for my team
mates... Its just my shot has been a bit off thats all, it happens. Me
and the coaching staff will have a look over tape and see if its just a
case of me finding my spots or how else i can find a way to score with
efficiency against this Pacers squad... In the end we always find a way,
and i always lead my team to victory. It's that simple, we're not
worried... We're up 2-0 and we are confident in our ability to close
this series out."
Decisive words from the Sixers young leader. Game three will tip off this Sunday in Indiana.
